I love the freedom with which Kate Bush created her music... Yet her work was so rigorous. Likewise, I am rigorous in my quest for harmonies and chords, and I have no tolerance for melodies that are too plain...Still I keep listening for what the music wants to say. In the end, it probably creates itself...I just like to butter it with suggestions!
